It’s Still Thinking: Hypertension’s Bloody Dreamcast Trailer
Posted by admin in Game Retail StoreAfter teasing the game’s official trailer with two short preview videos last month, TDGMods finally released a formal trailer for Hypertension, a new first-person shooter based on PC cult classic Blood and coming to Dreamcast (as well as PC, Mac, Linux, and GP2X Whiz). The project’s Hyper3dge technology is derived from the EDGE engine, which itself is based on id Software’s Doom source code.
To get the game onto Dreamcast, TDGMods builds it first on PC, then compiles the engine to run it on the console. While the team’s adoration for the Dreamcast was certainly a factor when it considered developing Hypertension for the platform, the group believes that it’s able to reach a bigger audience this way than if this was just a traditional PC project.
“Reaching the largest possible gaming audience is a stated mission for the team,” said TDGMods member Winston Branyon in an interview with Diehard GameFan. “Dreamcast has the audience that the PC modding simply doesn’t. We are unapologetically getting TDGmods on the map while reviving the Blood franchise all in one swoop.”
The original Blood series’ hero Caleb returns in this unauthorized sequel, accompanied by a new playable character and demon hunter, Aurelia. Each of the characters have their own weapons, gameplay styles, and level sets. Hypertension also introduces new and updated enemies and weapons — the Tommy Gun, for instance, returns, but can now shoot nails.
TDGMods expects to work on the game for “a year and so” before releasing it. You can follow the team’s development on its official blog.
